Howell Hathorne
President, CEO
Mr. Hathorne has been with The Speech & Hearing Center since 1966. He holds both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Speech/Language Pathology, with additional studies in Brain Injuries and Neurological Disorders at the American Rehabilitation Foundation. Additionally, he holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech/Language Hearing Association and Certification in the provision of VitalStim (electrical stimulation) procedures for swallowing disorders. He is also holds and maintains certification in administration.

Shawn Lancaster, Au.D., CCC-A
Director of Audiology

Dr. Lancaster has been working as an Audiologist for eight years and specializes in adult and pediatric hearing aid fittings. He received a Master of Arts degree in Audiology from the University of Tennessee and a Doctor of Audiology degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He is certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. Dr. Lancaster holds an Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing license in both Tennessee and Georgia, and lives with his wife Kathy and daughter Caroline in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Steven C. Roberson
Industrial Services Manager

Mr. Robertson began his career at The Speech & Hearing Center 1997 and has since sought to make each industrial company aware of the value of hearing conservation in the workplace. As a child, he attended speech therapy sessions at The Speech & Hearing Center after a blockage was removed from his ears at age six. As a result, he enjoys sharing with people, from personal experience, both the importance of hearing in general, as well as methods of protecting their ears from loud and damaging noises. Mr. Robertson is CAOHC certified as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist and will receive his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from Covenant College in December 2009.

Marty Browning Dunagan
Deaf Education Director
Mrs. Dunagan was born profoundly deaf and attended the Speech & Hearing Center as a child, where she received early intervention and intensive speech-language therapy. This therapy enabled Mrs. Dunagan to attend a regular school program throughout her education. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1983 with a B.S. in Deaf Education and came to the Speech & Hearing Center the following year to head up the preschool and kindergarten program, the Achieve Learning Center. In 1985 she was crowned Miss Tennessee USA, the first and only deaf contestant to be awarded this title. She holds an M.S. in Educational Supervision and Administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and has earned many recognitions for her community involvement, including: International Pilot Club Woman of the Year, WRCB Jefferson Award, Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award, and Optimist Club. Mrs. Dunagan and her husband, Randy, reside in Chattanooga with their four children.

Pam Hosterman, M.S. CCC-SLP
Director of Speech-Language Pathology

Ms. Hosterman has been with The Speech & Hearing Center since 1984. She obtained her bachelor’s degree at Penn State University and her master’s degree at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. A member of The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), she is also a certified dispenser for SpeechEasy, an anti-dysfluency devise.
Ms. Hosterman believes that a child’s development of communication skills is crucial for building strong self-confidence, and as a child’s self esteem is stimulated, he/she can further challenge himself/herself to learn and grow into a strong adult. Mr. Hosterman also enjoys instructing and encouraging parents how to work with their children so they can provide the stimulation and opportunities to further help their child meet his/her learning potential.

Carla Wiksell, M.S. CCC-SLP
Senior Speech-Language Pathologist

Ms. Wiksell has been with the Speech & Hearing Center since 1991. Prior to moving to Chattanooga, she was a Speech-Language Pathologist for the Bardstown City School System in Bardstown, Kentucky for five years. Ms. Wiksell provides diagnostic & therapeutic speech-language services, and also provides community screenings at daycares and private schools. She is a certified dispenser for SpeechEasy, a member of ASHA, and holds licenses to practice speech pathology in both Tennessee and Georgia. She received her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and her undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders from Murray State University. Additionally, Ms. Wiksell is a board member for LifeLine, a community organization that assists families with special needs children.

Kathleen Mahn, M.S. CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Ms. Mahn joined the clinical staff at The Speech & Hearing Center in 2008 and has 30 years of experience working in the field of speech-language pathology. For over 25 years, Ms. Mahn provided pediatric diagnostic services in an interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary clinic setting. Her areas of interest include the birth to three-year-old population, parent collaboration, preschool speech-language development, school age articulation/phonology, and communication challenges of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Ms. Mahn obtained her bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy from Middle Tennessee State University and her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Vanderbilt University. A post-graduate fellowship was completed at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. A member of ASHA, the Tennessee Association of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists (TAASLP), and the Autism Society of America’s East Tennessee chapter, Ms. Mahn is licensed to practice in the state of Tennessee.

Charlene Foshee, M.A. CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist

Mrs. Foshee has been practicing speech pathology for 20 years. She practices out of the Speech & Hearing Center’s Marion County office and is certified in both Alabama and Tennessee. A member of ASHA and TAASLP, she also holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and Certification in the provision of VitalStim procedures for swallowing disorders.
