Hearing Test for Babies
Sedation Free Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Testing
The Speech and Hearing Center is the first and only provider who can test infants and toddlers hearing through ABR testing without the use of sedation. We use the Vivosonic Integrity V500, the world's only wireless system for auditory electrophysiological assessment and hearing screening, to obtain ABR data without sedation or anesthesia, thanks to Vivosonic's patented, digital, signal-processing techniques. Avoiding sedation is imperative clinically and economically. Our patients will not be subjected to the associated risks of sedation, while simultaneously saving on health care costs. Patients who have previously not been candidates for sedation, and therefore for ABR, can now be successfully tested and provided the care they need.
Due to its use of Bluetooth® technology, Integrity gives the patient the unprecedented freedom to move around during the test, and eliminates the need for the clinician to be in very close proximity to the patient during the test process. This is particularly helpful with restless, non-cooperating patients like young children, as well as mentally and/or physically challenged patients. Infants can even feed and young children play during the test. Additionally, the Speech and Hearing Center is able to swiftly schedule patients, which is critical when aspiring toward early identification and preventing the development of speech delays.
This technology allows us to offer a comprehensive level of care for hearing-impaired patients, and eliminates the need for referral to multiple clinical sites.
